Tow Sports Jet Skis
Purpose equipped PWCs that turn ordinary rides into dedicated watersports sessions.
Tow Sports Jet Skis for Wake, Ski and Tube
A tow sports jet ski has a specific responsibility: it must deliver a controlled, repeatable pull while keeping the driver, observer and rider properly accommodated. That makes the choice different from simply buying the fastest PWC available. The hull, throttle response, seating arrangement, tow point, rider visibility, storage and water sports equipment all contribute to how effectively the machine performs when pulling a wakeboarder, water skier or tube. Our range includes dedicated tow sports PWCs as well as versatile watercraft that manufacturers have specifically designed or equipped for towing applications, giving customers several ways to build a setup around the activity they enjoy most.
Built Around the Person Behind the PWC
The most important difference between ordinary recreation and tow sports is what happens behind the watercraft. The PWC is no longer carrying only its own occupants. It is also responsible for maintaining a predictable connection with another person on the water.
For wakeboarding and waterskiing, that means smooth acceleration and consistent speed are valuable. For tubing, the priorities can shift toward stability, passenger capacity and controlled handling. The driver also needs an unobstructed view of the person being towed, while the watercraft must be configured with the appropriate tow equipment and operated according to local boating regulations.
A purpose designed tow sports PWC therefore brings together several elements that would otherwise have to be added individually.
Sea Doo Wake
Sea Doo currently places its dedicated tow sports machines in a separate Tow Sports category, with the 2026 range consisting of the Wake 170 and Wake Pro 230. Both are factory configured specifically for towing activities rather than being ordinary recreational PWCs with a simple tow hook added afterward.

The Wake 170 is the more straightforward of Sea Doo’s two dedicated tow sports machines. Its 170 HP engine provides a combination of usable pulling power and fuel efficiency, while the ST3 hull provides the stability required for towing. The factory Wake package includes the retractable LinQ ski pylon, speed based Ski Mode and removable wakeboard rack.
2026 Wake Pro 230
Wake Pro 230

The Wake Pro 230 moves into a higher output specification with a supercharged 230 HP Rotax engine. Sea Doo gives it the same fundamental tow sports equipment philosophy as the Wake, but adds greater power, the premium ST3 platform, larger onboard technology and factory installed 100 watt Bluetooth audio. The published dry weight is 379 kg, with 70 liters of fuel capacity and 98.9 liters of total storage.
Wakeboarding
Wakeboarding places particular demands on the towing machine because the rider is not simply being pulled in a straight line. The wakeboarder may cross the wake, jump, carve and generate changing loads through the tow rope. The driver therefore needs a PWC that can maintain a predictable speed and direction while the rider works behind it.
Sea Doo’s dedicated Wake package addresses this through Ski Mode, the retractable ski pylon and wakeboard rack. The pylon raises the tow connection and incorporates spotter hand grips and rope storage, while the rack provides a dedicated place for the board when it is not being used.
For a customer whose primary activity is wakeboarding, these factory integrated features are considerably more relevant than simply comparing maximum horsepower figures.
Waterskiing
Waterskiing places greater emphasis on a clean and consistent pull. The skier needs enough acceleration to rise from the water without an unnecessarily abrupt launch, followed by a stable cruising speed that allows the rider to maintain position behind the PWC.
The Wake 170 is particularly well suited to this type of use because its factory Ski Mode is designed specifically around towing. The Wake Pro 230 provides the same dedicated function while adding a supercharged engine and additional equipment for customers who want more performance from the towing platform.
Tubing and Family Watersports
Tubing changes the equation again. Unlike a wakeboarder or experienced water skier, a person on a towable tube may have little control over how the tube moves across the wake. The driver therefore has to prioritize predictable speed, smooth maneuvering and awareness of the person being pulled.
A three rider PWC is particularly useful for this type of activity because the normal arrangement can accommodate the driver, an observer and the person who is not participating in the tow. The Wake 170 and Wake Pro 230 both have three rider capacity.
Yamaha WaveRunner Tow Capabilities
Yamaha takes a different approach. Rather than maintaining a separate dedicated factory tow sports series, it incorporates towing capability into several of its recreational WaveRunner platforms and offers dedicated watersports accessories.
The manufacturer’s 2026 VX Series is explicitly described as suitable for towing, alongside cruising and fishing. The range includes:
* VX C
* VX
* VX Deluxe
* VX Cruiser
* VX Cruiser HO
* VX Limited
* VX Limited HO
Yamaha specifically identifies the VX Limited as Watersports Ready, while the VX Limited HO is described as a high performance model with accessories.
Yamaha RecDeck Tow Sports
Yamaha’s RecDeck system expands the capabilities of compatible FX and VX watercraft through accessory packages. Its published Tow Sports package includes a custom designed tube, 12 volt pump, tow rope and bungee hold down.
This makes Yamaha particularly interesting for customers who want a PWC that can change roles. Instead of purchasing a dedicated tow sports model, the owner can configure a compatible WaveRunner around family recreation, towing and other activities.
Yamaha JetBlaster Towing
The JetBlaster family also incorporates towing capability on applicable models. Yamaha lists a robust tow hook on its JetBlaster DLX models and provides a dedicated single rider tube kit as an accessory.
The current 2026 JetBlaster family includes:
* JetBlaster
* JetBlaster DLX 2 Up
* JetBlaster DLX 3 Up
* JetBlaster PRO 2 Up
* JetBlaster PRO 3 Up
* JetBlaster LTD
These machines should not be represented as direct equivalents to the factory dedicated Sea Doo Wake models. Their appeal is different: lightweight recreation with the ability to incorporate towing equipment on compatible configurations.
Taiga Orca WX3
Electric propulsion brings another interpretation to tow sports.
Orca WX3
Taiga’s Orca WX3 is a three rider electric watercraft explicitly developed for versatile recreation and watersports. Taiga identifies wakeboarding, waterskiing and tubing among its intended uses and equips the platform with a built in water sports hook, wide rear platform and customizable tow mode.
Published WX3 specifications
* 3 riders
* 120 kW power
* 360 kg weight
* Up to 2 hours stop and go play time
* Approximately 1 hour 20 minutes at 30 km/h cruising
* Fast charging in under 30 minutes
Taiga also describes the rear deck as accessory ready, allowing equipment such as coolers and fishing gear to be mounted. Its electric propulsion provides instant torque and quiet operation, giving the WX3 a noticeably different character from the gasoline powered tow sports PWCs.
What Makes a Good Tow Sports Setup?
The PWC itself is only part of the system. The tow equipment should be selected together with the watercraft and the activity.
For Wakeboarding
A retractable ski pylon, wakeboard rack, stable hull and speed control are particularly valuable. The rider needs a reliable tow point and the driver needs to maintain a consistent line.
For Waterskiing
Smooth acceleration and predictable speed become the priorities. A dedicated Ski Mode can simplify speed management, particularly when different riders are taking turns.
For Tubing
Passenger capacity, stability and controlled handling become more important because the person being towed has less influence over the movement of the towable.
For Family Use
A versatile PWC can be the better investment when towing is only one of several activities. Yamaha’s VX platform is specifically marketed around this type of multi purpose use.
Tow Equipment and Accessories
Depending on the watercraft and manufacturer, a complete watersports setup can include:
* Retractable ski pylon
* Tow hook
* Tow rope
* Wakeboard rack
* Wakeboard
* Water skis
* Towable tube
* Spotter hand grips
* Rope storage
* Boarding ladder
* Swim platform
* Speed control
* Tow mode
* Tube pump
* Equipment storage
Compatibility matters. A tow accessory designed for one PWC should not automatically be assumed to fit another model. Manufacturer specific mounting systems, deck arrangements and accessory limits should be confirmed before ordering.
The Right PWC Depends on the Sport
Dedicated wake and ski use: Sea Doo Wake 170 provides the purpose built 170 HP option, while Wake Pro 230 adds supercharged power and a more extensively equipped platform.
Multi purpose watersports: Yamaha’s VX range provides a broader recreational platform that can be configured for towing through Yamaha’s accessory ecosystem.
Lightweight towing: Compatible Yamaha JetBlaster models offer tow hooks and access to tube equipment while retaining the compact character of the JetBlaster platform.
Electric watersports: Taiga’s Orca WX3 brings a three person electric platform with integrated tow capability and customizable tow mode.
Make the PWC Part of the Watersports Setup
A tow sports machine should be selected according to the activity that will happen behind it. The person on the wakeboard, skis or tube ultimately determines what the driver needs from the PWC, from acceleration and speed control to seating and visibility. The equipment carried onboard then completes the setup.
If towing will be the main purpose, a dedicated model such as the Sea Doo Wake or Wake Pro provides the most direct factory solution. If you want one machine to cover recreation, cruising and occasional towing, a suitably equipped Yamaha VX can make more sense. For an electric alternative, the Taiga Orca WX3 introduces a completely different propulsion experience.
Tell us what you plan to tow, how many people will normally be aboard and whether you prefer gasoline or electric propulsion. From there, we can identify the appropriate watercraft and towing configuration rather than treating every tow sports PWC as the same machine.
